Originally announced by CEO Steve Jobs on January 9, 2001, iTunes' original and main focus was music, with a library offering organization, collection, and storage of users' music collections. Options for sound optimizations exist, as well as ways to wirelessly share the iTunes library. Developed by Apple Inc., it is used to purchase, play, download, and organize digital multimedia, on personal computers running the macOS and Windows operating systems, and can be used to rip songs from CDs, as well as play content with the use of dynamic, smart playlists.

I will continue to hope for a better answer that fixes the Descriptor request error when using the USB-C as the connection.ITunes ( / ˈ aɪ t( j) uː n z/) is a software program that acts as a media player, media library, mobile device management utility, and the client app for the iTunes Store. Windows shows the Unknown device that “A request from the USB device descriptor failed.”(Code 43) It would also clear up why when the USB-C to USB-A adapter is used the problem goes away.

This would be why I cannot install the Apple driver usbaapl64.inf which is located in the correct folder when I try to do it manually. I think either the driver communication protocol is wrong for the iPhone 12 or the pin out for the signals does not match the pin out for USB-C protocol for communications. then forms a device id and should load the correct driver for that device (usbaapl64.inf).īut when Windows doesn't receive the information back an error is flagged and the device driver is never loaded. The descriptor supplies Windows with information from the device such as manufacturer (Apple), type of device (Portable Device) iPhone etc.

When the device (iPhone12) is plugged in to the USB-C port Windows requests information from the device about what it is (Get Descriptor). Seems to me like its a USB protocol issue. Converting the newer USB-C cable BACK to the older standard with the USB-A cable adapter does not offer the same transfer capacity and charging capabilities as the USB-C port is capable of. I do notice, however, if I use the same cable with a USB-C to USB-A adapter not only does the Windows PC recognize the iPhone 12 but iTunes does too! You have got to be kidding me going backwards.Ĭlaudeir thanks for your response but going to an older standard (USB-A) to fix a newer (USB-C) standard is not the answer. I was told that the iPhone 12, with the supplied Lightning/USB-C cable, will not work with any windows PC. I called Apple support and spoke with two senior advisors. (Code 43) A request from the USB device descriptor failed."

When I go to the properties of the Unknown Device in Device Manager I get "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.

I tried several different NEW lightning/USB-C cables and phones with same result. No “Trust this Computer” pop up is displayed on the iPhone and iTunes and file explorer do NOT see the iPhone 12.

When the supplied cable is plugged in to a Windows PC USB-C port the iPhone 12 charges and makes the charging connection sound and Windows makes the new device found sound and shows up in Device Manager - Universal Serial Bus Controllers as – Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I purchased (4) new iPhone 12's and all (4) devices are not recognized on two different PC's using the supplied Lightning/USB-C cable.
